Community Gallery Exhibition Celebrates Desert Landscape

City of Palm Desert Community Gallery Exhibition Celebrates Desert Landscape 01/19/10 The Palm Desert Attorney Community Gallery welcomes artwork from five Coachella Valley artists in Desertscapes, the exhibition, on display through March 28. There will be a public reception to honor the artists on Monday, February 1, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Included in the exhibition are artists Patrick Blythe, Marion Herrmann, Maria Hunt, Myrn-Ellen Krengel, and Gwen Novak. As suggested by its name, the exhibition's theme is the desert landscape. The mountains and flora of the desert in which they live and to which they travel have inspired all the artists. Although the exhibition's artists share a theme, they employ a variety of diverse materials. Patrick Blythe works with fused and cast glass. Marion Herrmann, Maria Hunt, and Myrn-Ellen Krengel create in oil on canvas and Gwen Novak works in pastel drawings. The Desertscapes, the exhibition, provides a preview kick-off for Desertscapes, a month-long celebration of early desert painters and the contemporary landscape their website painters who followed. Throughout April, Desertscapes will offer exhibits of contemporary and historical painters, along with talks by some of California's leading art experts. Highlights include painting demonstrations, paint-outs in the field with contemporary landscape artists, exhibitions, lectures, and tours. This groundbreaking celebration is Valley-wide in scope, with a variety of events taking place in various cities. The Palm Desert Attorney Community Gallery is located in the Visitor Center at 72-567 Highway 111 and is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information on the exhibition or the "Desertscapes" event, please call 760-568-1441 or visit www.palmdesertart.org.
